FIRE STATION MIGHT NOT OPEN AGAIN.(Local)

Nearly two weeks after he closed the Central Avenue fire station, Mayor Fred Julian said Monday that there's a definite possibility that the station won't reopen.

Julian said he is considering three options for remedying erosion problems that have ruined the station's plumbing, adding that he would like to "work with the new mayor to form a committee to see what the solution should be."

City officials will consider building a new fire station, Julian said.

Another possible remedy would be to convert an old Department of Public Works garage on Central Avenue into a fire station.
