Qld: Storm causes minor damage on Sunshine Coast

A storm, which police say people had described as a mini-tornado, has damaged two houses
and left thousands without power on the Sunshine Coast north of Brisbane tonight.

The storm struck at about 7pm (AEST) hitting the Palmwoods and Nambour areas.

A spokeswoman for Energex says about 20,000 houses were without power after the storm
passed, but repairs are already under way.

She says parts of Caloundra are also blacked out.

She says most of the damage to the network was caused by debris and tree branches being
blown across lines.

Police say they've had reports of lots of debris and trees being blown across roads,
but there are no reports of injuries.

A spokesman says the two houses which were damaged were in the hinterland area south-west
of Nambour.
